The PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) is a European regulation aimed at reducing packaging waste and improving the sustainability of packaging. The PPWR officially came into effect on February 12, 2025. One of the new rules is a ban on plastic packaging for fresh fruit and vegetables under 1.5 kg. Our fruit and vegetable bags made from 100% recycled cotton already met this requirement — but we’ve taken things a step further.
Saving plastic with a simple innovation
We’ve added a simple yet clever new feature to our fruit and vegetable bags: the ‘draw handle’. This innovative closure combines a drawstring and a handle in one, making the bag easy to carry and keeping the contents securely inside. It’s especially handy when placing the bag in your shopping cart or on the conveyor belt at checkout. Combined with the bag’s transparent design, it meets the needs of both shoppers and cashiers — practical, efficient, and easy to use.
What we like most is that these bags are designed to be multi-use. That helps save a lot of plastic (and paper) single use packaging that often gets thrown away immediately after shopping. A real win-win.

According to the European Commission, all packaging in the EU must be recyclable by 2030. Experts say the new PPWR rules will lead to major changes in the packaging industry. Considering that around 35% of all plastic worldwide is used for packaging, it’s clear that even small changes can make a big difference.
